Insight Marketing (owned by Tweetheart Kerry Anne MacDougall) has been providing Island businesses with practical, effective, and affordable marketing solutions for almost three years. Until now, Kerry Anne has conducted operations from her own home office in Pisquid, but as of October 1, she can be found five days a week at 51 University Avenue in Charlottetown.
When Kerry Anne and her family moved back home to Prince Edward Island from Fredericton, New Brunswick, in 2007, she began looking for employment in her chosen field of marketing. After much consideration, however, she decided to start a home-based business developing marketing plans for local entrepreneurs. Kerry Anne says, “I thought it would be a great way to slowly enter the market and give me a chance to spend some time at home with my two young children.”
What she didn’t anticipate was just how high the demand would be for practical and affordable marketing on PEI. Kerry Anne explains, “My approach was simple and I think Islanders appreciated that from the beginning—hassle-free, jargon-free marketing that produced results. I wanted to give people realistic action plans that would work, and that’s why I think my business has grown so much, so quickly.”
It didn’t take long before Kerry Anne was burning the candle at both ends and she was finding it difficult to find the time to implement the plans she was developing.
Kerry Anne found herself at a critical crossroads. “I could tell my clients they’d have to find someone else to help them or I could actually implement the plans myself. That meant the home-based aspect of things had to change.” A born entrepreneur, Kerry Anne decided to take her business to the next level. She set to work finding childcare and an employee.
Sarah MacInnis joined the Insight Marketing team in 2009 to help implement the marketing plans and coordinate training for the market. Last month, Kerry Anne took an even bigger entrepreneurial step securing office space for Insight Marketing. “A place to focus and to actually sit down and meet with clients. Islanders are so supportive and while growing can be scary, I knew if I didn’t take this step I’d always wonder what would happen if I didn’t try.”
